Delicious breakfast is served with a variation on the traditional French Toast recipe! Scrumptious enough for dessert with fresh fruit and whipped cream.
BAKED PANETONE TOAST

Ingredients for the syrup:
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon lite Karo syrup
6 tablespoons of butter
1/3 cup of buttermilk
Mix this all together in a saucepan over low heat until melted. Pour the mixture in a rectangle baking dish. Set aside to cool.
Ingredients for the bread:
8 thick slices of Panetone bread
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of cinnamon and/or nutmeg
Soak the bread in the egg mixture and then place in the rectangle baking dish – cover and refrigerate overnight.
In the morning bake uncovered at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes…invert and bake a few more minutes until golden brown the liquid is absorbed and has a sticky consistency. Give it a little shake of confectioners sugar and enjoy!
