Princess Hearts will be a favorite on your table for Valentine's Day! This is a very basic recipe, so easy to make and presents as a beautiful Valentine's Day dessert.
PRINCESS HEARTS by Dolce Vita Baskets
½ cup shortening
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup sugar
½ cup of honey
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons Princess Cake emulsion*
Pinch of powdered vanilla
Combine all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, set aside.
In another bowl beat shortening with an electric mixer on high speed for 30 seconds. Then beat sugar, honey, egg, vinegar and almond emulsion. Beat until combined. Add the flour mixture and blend together. Shape the dough into the bowl, cover and refrigerate for at least two hours so it is easy to handle.
Divide the dough, and on a lightly floured cutting board roll the dough out to about 1/8 in thick and cut with heart shaped cookie cutter. Place at least one inch apart of a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 6 or 7 minutes in a 375 degree oven. The cookies will appear to be under-done, but will give the soft consistency desired for this recipe. Place on a wire rack and cool thoroughly. Sprinkle confectionery sugar and decorate as desired.
*substitute with almond emulsion or almond filling
