Baked Panettone Toast
Baked Panettone Toast

Delicious breakfast is served with a variation on the traditional French Toast recipe!  Scrumptious enough for dessert with fresh fruit and whipped cream.

Ingredients for the syrup:

1 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon lite Karo syrup

6 tablespoons of butter

1/3 cup of buttermilk

Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan over low heat until melted. Pour the mixture in a rectangle baking dish.   Set aside to cool.

Ingredients for the bread:

8 thick slices of Panettone bread

3 eggs

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 teaspoon of cinnamon and/or nutmeg

Beat the eggs and spices together.  Soak the bread in the egg mixture on both sides and then place in the rectangle baking dish.  Cover and refrigerate overnight.

In the morning bake uncovered at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes…invert and bake a few more minutes until golden brown and all the liquid is absorbed and has a sticky consistency. Give it a little shake of confectioner sugar and enjoy!
